THE “CANDIDATE”
Our body of believers needs a man who is striving to draw himself and the church closer to God! He will need to seek God’s will and specific missions for Westmoreland Baptist Church (WBC). The church needs a Christ Like elder who feels they have been called by God to minister with a desire to be holy and is a disciple-maker of others.
Ideally, he will have a seminary degree or working toward one. We desire that he has at least 5 years of Pastoral leadership and that he believes in the community. We desire a man whose family, if he has one, will be involved in the church, schools, and the community.
THE “FIELD”
Westmoreland/Spring Valley is a community with K-12 (3) schools and is mostly residential. Most residents are middle to low income. Westmoreland is part of the city of Huntington but is in a separate county. It is part of a Tri-State area including West Virginia, Ohio, and Kentucky and located near the Ohio River. Marshall University is about 5 miles from the Church.
THE “CHURCH”
WBC is about 110 years old. At its peak, attendance ran between 350-400 people in Sunday morning services. Currently, attendance runs at 60-80 members present on Sunday morning services. The facilities include a medium sized sanctuary seating 400-500 including a large balcony, a two-story educational building, and a Preschool/multi-purpose building which also includes a gym/fellowship hall. We have a children’s program that is held in the gym and “Women on Mission” group that meet there. Westmoreland Baptist has always had a heart for missions but as we have aged, this has become more difficult. We need a pastor who will help our body become the missional church God wants us to be.
Currently Westmoreland Baptist Church has no debt on any of the facilities. We offer a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience between $50,000 and $70,000. We can discuss this further with interested candidates.
